From the collection; MUSIC AND MEMORY : DEMENTIA DAZE

Inspired by the Dunedin Town hall dances held from the 1930s-late 1960s.

Back in the day, no alcohol was served at the dances, only Lanes Orange Cordial. If the sales of cordial were low, organiser of the dances, Harry Strang, would have a quiet word yo the band leader to 'up the tempo', to increase the thirst of puffed dancers. So the story goes.

The black and white crinoline detail are to reflect the blue of swishing prtyicotes against the crisp suits of the live band.
